What is synthetic rubber

There are two types of tires in the rubber industry; One is natural rubber and the other is synthetic rubber. Synthetic rubber is easier to produce than natural rubber, but synthetic rubber has a wider range of applications. In this article, we have made a comparison between natural rubber and synthetic rubber for you, which we are familiar with: Synthetic rubber is a type of synthetic elastomer that is often derived from crude oil. More than two-thirds of the world’s rubber production capacity, which is about 15 billion kilograms, belongs to the production of synthetic rubber. Most of the demand for synthetic rubber, like natural rubber, is in the automotive industry, which produces a variety of rubber profiles, car doors and windows, belts, belts and floor coverings. Synthetic rubbers are divided into two groups: reactive and non-reactive, which is also done through the chemical composition of polymer chains. The most widely used synthetic rubber is styrene-butadiene or SBR rubber. Other polymers include polybutadiene, polyethylene-propylene, potyl rubber, neoprene, nitrile rubber and polyisoprene. The raw materials or monofilaments that are mainly used in the production of tires are: butadiene, styrene, acrylonitrile, chloroprene, isobutylene, isoprene, ethylene and propylene.

Butadiene styrene

Styrene and butadiene polymers, which have more than 50% butadiene, are called SBRs. The typical ratio of monolayers is 70 to 75 parts butadiene to 25 to 30 parts styrene above 50%, the product becomes highly plastic and can be used in leachate paints. SBR rubber does not crystallize like natural rubber due to tensile strength and is therefore weak unless reinforced with soot or other materials. Even in this case, it is weaker than natural rubber. Its volcanic properties are good and its aging characteristics are satisfactory. Up to 70% of the SBR produced is used in tire treads, 15% in mechanical parts and about 10% in leachate.

NITRILE (NBR) TIRES

Butadiene and acrylonitrile, like many SBR‌s, are made by emulsion polymerization. However, depending on the required properties, the amount of acrylonitrile varies from 20 to 50%. As the amount of nitrile increases, the resistance to hydrocarbons, solvents, wear and gas penetration increases. Reducing the amount of nitrile increases the properties at low temperatures and volatility. NBR rubbers are resistant to oils, solvents, water, salts, aliphatic compounds, soaps and most foods. These materials work continuously at a temperature of 120 ° C in the vicinity of air and at a temperature of 150 ° C in the oil environment.

NEOPRENE RUBBER

This rubber is obtained from the emulsion polymerization of pure chloroprene at a temperature of 38 ° C in the presence of sulfur. It is resistant to oxidation, oil, heat and fire and has special applications in car parts, adhesives, sealants and coatings. It is more expensive than natural rubber, so it is used when special properties are needed.

Rubber tube

It is a type of polysulfide rubber that was invented in the United States in the early 1920s. This tire was the first synthetic rubber to be produced commercially in this country. Thiocol rubbers are prepared by the compact polymerization of a suitable alkaline polysulfide and a suitable organic dihalide. The product of these reactions was especially used for lining oil tanks, construction and putty mortars, adhesives and sealants, and most recently rocket fuel adhesives, sealing coatings, and other parts that require ease of use and good weathering resistance.

Silicone rubbers

Silicone rubbers are a mixture of mineral-organic polymers obtained by polymerizing a variety of silanes and siloxanes. Although expensive, their remarkable resistance to heat leads to the exclusive use of these tires in high temperature applications. The chains of these compounds are made one by one from silicon and oxygen and are free of carbon. Silicon compounds and their derivatives are characterized by a variety of unusual properties, such as solubility in organic solvents, insolubility in water and alcohols, thermal stability, chemical inertness, high dielectric properties, relatively low flammability, low viscosity, high viscosity of resin, change With temperature and non-toxicity. Due to these properties, silicon compounds can be used as hydraulic fluid and heat transfer, lubricants and lubricants, sealants for electrical applications, high temperature resistant coating and coating glazes, silicone rubber, hydrophobic compounds, waxes and polishing materials. Silicone rubbers are most commonly used in the aerospace industry, where they are used in freezers, gaskets, windshield wipers, and similar applications where temperature is an issue.

Butyl rubber

The binder of isobutylene with about 2% isoprene is called butyl rubber. Isoprene creates insufficient saturation in the chain structure to be cured or volcanized. Butyl rubber has infinite general permeability to gases and therefore its main use is in the manufacture of tubes and lining of tubes without tubes. Butyl rubber is also neutral against oxidation and is useful for anti-weathering applications. Another type of butyl rubber is halogen butyl rubber. It has better resistance to aging, is more compatible with other tires and is used in tubeless tires.

Urethane rubber

The reaction product of some polyglycols and organic diisocyanates is a rubber product called polyurethane. These compounds are special rubbers with special properties. In this way, they have high abrasion resistance and can be used at high temperatures and are also resistant to high concentrations of solvents, oxygen and ozone. The main consumption of this type of rubber is the production of flexible sponges and elastic fibers. The use of these materials in the manufacture of furniture, mattresses, insulation materials, oscillators and other fields related to rubber sponges is expanding.

HYPOLONE RUBBER

Hypalon rubber is obtained by catalyzing the radical reaction of chlorine and sulfur dioxide with polyethylene. The result of this reaction is the conversion of soft heat polyethylene into a volcanic flexor. Hypalon is extremely resistant to ozone, weather and heat, and its chemical resistance is excellent. We will discuss about other types of synthetic rubber in article.
